Dr Jaco Joubert
Dr Jaco Joubert joined PathCare at the beginning of June 2019.
He completed his undergraduate medical studies at the University of Pretoria in 2003 and his internship at the Universitas and Pelonomi Academic Complex in 2004. Following his community service year at Bela-Bela Hospital in Limpopo, he worked as a medical officer at Ernst Oppenheimer Hospital in Welkom, before heading to Ireland for a position as Resident Medical Officer at the Whitfield Clinic in Cork.
After his return to South Africa in 2008, Jaco obtained his MMed (Haematology) in 2012 from the University of the Free State, as well as a Postgraduate Diploma in Transfusion Medicine in 2014. After qualifying as a haematologist in 2012, he worked for the National Health Laboratory Service at Kimberley Hospital, before joining the Department of Haematology and Cell Biology at the Universitas Hospital Academic Laboratories and the University of the Free State in 2014, where he worked as a consultant haematologist and senior lecturer, until 2019.
His interests include Laboratory Haematology, Transfusion Medicine, and Haemostasis. He is currently busy with a PhD in Haematology, attempting to better characterize the ADAMTS13-Von Willebrand Factor axis and fibrinolytic system of the Chacma baboon, so as to be able to design more rational pre-clinical drug testing studies for the treatment of acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.
