PathCare is a partnership of pathologists in private practice across South Africa that has been assisting doctors and healthcare professionals determine or confirm diagnoses since 1922. We are registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and all our laboratories are SANAS accredited.

An opportunity exists for a Senior Medical Technologist In-Charge to join the PathCare family at our Constantiaberg branch in Cape Town. We seek a professional with a high level of ethics and integrity who displays leadership ability and has a proven track record of aligning with the PathCare values.

Key Competency Requirements

  • National diploma qualification as a Medical Technologist in Clinical Pathology
  • Current registration with the HPCSA in Clinical Pathology
  • Relevant business/laboratory management qualification is advantageous
  • Intermediate computer literacy (LIMS, Microsoft Office)
  • 8 years’ post qualification experience in a Clinical Pathology environment
  • General management/supervisory experience in a Clinical Pathology setting
  • Experience in maintaining QA systems
  • Experience in technical procedure development and implementation
  • Experience in training staff
  • Proven track record of leadership ability including delegating and team building
  • Client focussed with strong interpersonal relations
  • Effective verbal and electronic communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Innovative
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Planning and organisational skills
  • Work effectively under pressure and display resilience and tenacity in challenging situations

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and be responsible for pathology operations under their supervision in the laboratory, including HR, finance, quality matters and auditing of the systems
  • Communicate, implement and manage organisational strategies, objectives and policies
  • Mentor, develop and train team members
  • Manage reagents and equipment
  • Perform advanced maintenance, housekeeping and troubleshooting of technical problems
  • Manage, motivate an engage direct reports while maintaining day-to-day HR management administration
  • Investigate, recommend and implement initiatives to improve operational efficiencies
