Danielle completed her undergraduate studies in genetics and biochemistry at the University of Cape Town. Thereafter she joined the Division of Human Genetics at the Institute of Infectious Disease and Molecular Medicine (UCT), where she completed her BSc (Med)(Hons), MSc (Med) and PhD degrees. She went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship with the Division of Neurology at Groote Schuur Hospital.  Her research focussed on the molecular genetics of neurodegenerative diseases in South Africa, with a particular interest in the inherited ataxias. During her PhD she also investigated the use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) as in vitro models of neurodegeneration.  In her role at PathCare Danielle is involved in the research and development of new molecular genetic assays.
