Dr van der Merwe obtained a B. Med. Sc Hons. (Cum Laude) from the University of the Free State, where she also attained her MB.Ch.B and M.Med in Medical Microbiology (Cum Laude).  She has worked for both Ampath and Lancet laboratories before she joined PathCare in 2017. She has expertise in infection control, antimicrobial stewardship and clinical infectious diseases
