PathCare is a partnership of pathologists in private practice across South Africa that has been assisting doctors and healthcare professionals determine and confirm diagnoses since 1923. We are registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and all our laboratories are SANAS accredited.

An opportunity exists in our Special Operations Support Unit at PathCare Park, N1 City, Cape Town for a Medical Technologist/Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist qualified in Clinical Pathology (HPCSA-registered). The Unit provides administrative and help-desk support to the Corporate Clinical Trial, Occupational Health, Research, Environmental and Veterinary clients. The position is primarily office-based giving electronic and telephonic support. We seek a HPCSA registered experienced medical technologist /technician / medical laboratory scientist with a proven track of building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders and aligning with the PathCare values.

Key Competency Requirements

  • Experienced Medical Technologist/Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist, Clinpath Qualification with 3 years or more experience in a pathology laboratory environment.
  • HPCSA registration
  • Intermediate Computer literacy (Microsoft Office)
  • Knowledge of ICH-GCP and experience in dealing with corporate clients and medical professionals
  • 3 years or more medical technologist/technician/laboratory scientist experience in a Clinpath pathology environment
  • Experience in a clinical trial environment would be an advantage
  • Client-focused with strong interpersonal relations (internal and external clients)
  • Effective verbal and electronic communication skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Planning and organisational skills (meet deadlines)

  • Display initiative and accountability
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and display resilience and tenacity in challenging and stressful situations

  • Must be fluent in English and with and understanding of Afrikaans
  • The Support Unit is operational during business hours (Mon – Fri), between the hours of 07:00 and 18:00. The successful candidate must be available to work weekends & public holidays if necessary.
  • Must have an acceptable track record/performance rating with regard to the administrative, technical, and behavioral competencies required to perform in this position

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, oversee and maintain Client Projects/Trial Studies
  • Resolution of corporate client pathology queries and account queries
  • Client Quotation procedures
  • Patient data cleaning and sending out of electronic results to clients
  • Coordinate shipment of samples & ordering of relevant shipping materials with external / internal couriers
  • Assist at exhibits, site initiations, present at investigator meetings and assist with marketing material & communications, when required
  • Comply with Accreditation requirements
  • Maintain stock levels, kit production and distribution to clients
  • Train external site personnel and attend Site and industry meeting, when required
  • Ensure check-data capture of requisitions
