In 2004, at the age of nineteen, Josephine joined PathCare in Paarl as a Data Capturer. When the
inaugural Phlebotomy Learnership program was advertised in 2006, she took the opportunity and
applied. She was selected as one of the first 20 learners in South Africa out of several thousand
internal and external applicants to the PathCare Academy. Josephine successfully completed the
course and registered as a Phlebotomy Technician in 2008. She soon began mentoring the new
phlebotomy learners joining the Paarl team. Continuing on her early successes, and taking on
challenges and additional duties, she completed the depot auditing course and was promoted to
be the deputy Senior of the Nursing Department in Paarl. Now, fifteen years later, she is the second
phlebotomy technician in PathCare to hold the position of Head of Nursing in a PathCare Area
(the first being in PathCare in Windhoek, Namibia).
