Contract Positions: Data Quality Analyst – N1 City, Cape Town

PathCare is a partnership of pathologists in private practice across South Africa that has been assisting doctors and healthcare professionals determine and confirm diagnoses since 1923. We are registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and all our laboratories are SANAS accredited.

2x six-month contract opportunities exist for a skilled Data Quality Analyst at our N1 City branch in Cape Town, who are passionate about data and quality.

The ideal candidates combine strong data analytics skills with an in-depth understanding of patient records and the impact of data errors. This role is responsible to investigate and correct data errors across multiple systems. An in-depth understanding of Capture, Meditech and supporting databases are key requirements for this role.

Key Competency Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in data analysis and remediation of patient records.
  • Demonstrable proficiency to analyse patient data using Excel and/or SQL to identify data discrepancies and determine the root causes thereof.
  • Demonstrable in-depth knowledge of how patient records are created and maintained in Capture and Meditech and delivered to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of how to correct errors, to ensure acceptable long term quality in all affected systems.
  • Demonstrable ability to analyse the impact of errors and prioritise corrections accordingly.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, allowing you to clearly explain complex data concepts.
  • Experience working with database extracts to find data discrepancies.
  • Experience working with SQL queries for data analysis.
  • Possess a natural curiosity and enjoy the thrill of investigating data discrepancies and anomalies (you are a Data Detective!).
  • Meticulous and have a strong commitment to producing high-quality, reliable work.
  • A proactive learner who is eager to embrace new technologies and data methodologies.
  • An effective communicator who can translate complex technical findings into clear, non-technical insights for clinical and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor data quality agents, investigate and escalate issues identified.
  • Collaborate with frontline support staff to resolve queries relating to historical data errors.
  • Analyse the impact of data quality issues, used for prioritisation.
  • Perform root cause analysis for data errors and provide recommendations for process improvements.
  • Perform expert level remediation tasks on patient records in the LIS, such as merging, unmerging and moving lab episodes.
  • Ensure excellent quality outcomes, by testing the outcomes of remediation activities throughout the process.
  • Support IT department with ad-hoc data quality investigations.
  • Collaborate with SQL analysts and developers to develop data quality tools.
  • Define and manage automated data quality monitoring tools to track quality metrics.
