PathCare is a partnership of pathologists in private practice across South Africa that has been assisting doctors and healthcare professionals determine and confirm diagnoses since 1923. We are registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and all our laboratories are SANAS accredited.

An opportunity exists for an Experienced Medical Technician/Technologist/Laboratory Scientist to join the team in the Histology department at our Claremont branch in Cape Town. We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of displaying Histology competence and who has a high level of ethics and integrity while consistently aligning with the PathCare values.

Key Competency Requirements

  • 3-year Biomedical Technology diploma/4-year Medical Laboratory Scientist degree or Medical Technician Certificate in Histology
  • Current registration with the HPCSA in Histology
  • Computer literate with Meditech knowledge is advantageous
  • Knowledge/understanding Material Management system
  • 3-5 years’ Histology experience post HPCSA registration
  • Experience in technical procedure development and implementation
  • Experience in maintaining QA Systems
  • Client-focused with strong interpersonal relations
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Display initiative
  • Advanced problem-solving ability
  • Effective verbal and electronic communication skills
  • Ability to oversee and train junior staff and students
  • Ability to work under pressure and display resilience and tenacity in challenging situations
  • Result-orientated
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Ability to work alone in the laboratory
  • Must be fluent in English with an understanding of Afrikaans
  • Ability to provide Managerial support
  • Must be prepared to work shifts, weekends & public holidays
  • Must have an acceptable track record/performance record with regard to the technical and behavioral competencies required to perform in this position

Please note that all the shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a technical proficiency test to assess their level of competence.
