An opportunity exists for an Experienced Medical Technician/Technologist/Laboratory Scientist to join the team in the Microbiology department at our St. Georges branch in Port Elizabeth. We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of displaying Microbiology competence and who has a high level of ethics and integrity while consistently aligning with the PathCare values.
Key Competency Requirements
- 3-year Biomedical Technology diploma/4-year Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technician Certificate qualification in Clinical Pathology/Microbiology
- Current registration with the HPCSA in Clinical Pathology/Microbiology
- Computer literate with Meditech knowledge
- Knowledge/understanding Material Management system
- 3-5 years’ Microbiology experience post HPCSA registration
- Experience in technical procedure development is advantageous
- Experience in QC review process and experience in maintaining QC systems including SANAS audits
- Experience in Materials Management
- Experience on Vitek / Vitek MS , Genexpert , Biofire
- Experience with troubleshooting instruments
- Client-focused with strong interpersonal relations & collaborative skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Display initiative
- Advanced Problem-solving ability
- Effective verbal and electronic communication skills
- Ability to oversee and train junior staff and students

- Must be prepared to work shifts, weekends & public holidays
- Must have an acceptable track record/performance record with regard to the technical and behavioral competencies required to perform in this position
Key Competency Requirements
- Work collaboratively with Pathologists, Laboratory manager and Senior Technologists in their pursuit to provide patient excellence
- Perform advanced maintenance, housekeeping and troubleshooting of technical problems
- Manage reagents and equipment
- Stock management- Perform effective stock management with efficiency studies
- Assist with Proficiency testing schedules and PT reviews
- Be involved in Trend analysis in context of ISO 15189
- Model, align to and drive the PathCare values thereby contributing to a purpose- driven CARE values- based environment
