PathCare is a partnership of pathologists in private practice across South Africa that has been assisting doctors and healthcare professionals determine and confirm diagnoses since 1923. We are registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and all our laboratories are SANAS accredited.

An exciting opportunity exists for a Haematopathologist to be based primarily in Bloemfontein, with occasional travel to Welkom and Kimberley as required. We seek a professional who displays a high level of ethics and integrity, with appropriate laboratory medicine expertise and experience, and a proven track record of aligning with our values.

Key Competency Requirements

  • Either an M. Med (HaemPath) or FC Pathology (S.A.) (Haematology) qualification is required.
  • Current registration with the HPCSA as a Haematopathologist.
  • The applicant should be detail-oriented, proactive and have a passion for Haematology.
  • A strong ability to troubleshoot and innovate in a fast-paced and unpredictable environment is essential.
  • An ability to work effectively under pressure and display resilience and tenacity in challenging situations will be necessary.
  • Proven competency and ability in the following areas:
    • Perform bone marrow biopsies on adult and paediatric patients.
    • Timely reporting of bone marrow aspirates & trephine biopsies.
    • Flow cytometry analysis using Kaluza and / or other software.
    • Interpretation of Molecular data (PCR & NGS platforms).
    • Analysis of Coagulation assays, including platelet aggregation studies.
  • Prerequisites:
    • Ability to travel to perform bone marrow biopsies in the Northern Cape, including Kimberley, and the Free State.
    • Skill and experience in analysing and reporting flow cytometry, both diagnostic and minimal residual disease assessments.
  • Leadership in laboratory management and understanding of laboratory business principles and finances.
  • Ability to lead and supervise a multidisciplinary laboratory team, ensuring high standards of quality control, safety, and compliance with local and international regulations.
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to implement ISO15189 & CLSI standards for new technology validation.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to conduct CPD sessions and marketing visits.
  • Team-oriented with a collaborative approach to working across sites.
  • Work closely with Clinical Haematologists and Oncologists to ensure comprehensive diagnostic services and patient management, including taking part in Clinical Morphology meetings.
  • Must have a proven track record of developing and maintaining relationships with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Must have an acceptable track record / performance record regarding the technical and behavioural competencies required to perform in this position.
  • Fluent in English with a good understanding of Afrikaans.
