PathCare is a partnership of pathologists in private practice across South Africa that has been assisting doctors and healthcare professionals determine and confirm diagnoses since 1923. We are registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and all our laboratories are SANAS accredited.

An opportunity exists for an Entry-level Medical Technologist/Laboratory Scientist/Medical Biological Scientist to join the team in the Molecular department at the Unitas branch in Centurion. We seek an individual with a high level of ethics and integrity who displays a proven track record of aligning with the PathCare Vermaak values.

Key Competency Requirements

  • Medical Technologist Certificate in Clinical Pathology/Microbiology/Virology or a BSc (Hons) degree in Molecular/Microbiology/Virology or related field
  • Experience in n Mycobacterium Tuberculosis department would be advantageous
  • Current registration with the HPCSA Microbiology/Molecular Biology or related field is mandatory
  • Computer literate with Skylims knowledge is advantageous
  • Knowledge/understanding of the stock management system
  • 1-3 years of Molecular/Microbiology/ Mycobacterium Tuberculosis experience post HPCSA registration is essential
  • Experience in maintaining QA Systems
  • Problem-solving ability (including QC and instrument related)
  • Effective verbal and electronic communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and display resilience and tenacity in challenging situations
  • Result-orientated
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Must be fluent in English with an understanding of Afrikaans
  • Must be prepared to work shifts, weekends & public holidays
  • Must have an acceptable track record/performance record with regard to the technical and behavioural competencies required to perform in this position
  • Client-focused with strong interpersonal relations

Please note that all the shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a technical proficiency test to assess their level of competence.
