PathCare is a partnership of pathologists in private practice across South Africa that has been assisting doctors and healthcare professionals determine and confirm diagnoses since 1923. We are registered with the HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) and all our laboratories are SANAS accredited.

An opportunity exists for a QA Manager to join the team in the QA division at our N1 City branch.

We are seeking an experienced individual who has extensive knowledge/experience of ISO standards with a proven track record of overseeing and managing a team of technical and administrative staff within a similar environment. This individual’s track record must include motivating and engaging employees, responding to service delivery needs within this location and positively interacting with stakeholders at all levels.

Key Competency Requirements

  • National diploma/degree as a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist. (Clinical pathology qualification will be advantageous)
  • Current registration with the HPCSA
  • Extensive knowledge of developing and implementing ISO standards i.e. Quality Assurance/Quality Control mechanisms, Quality Management systems and Lean principles
  • Extensive knowledge of ISO 15189 standard, ISO/IEC 17025 standard, and SANAS/SADCAS requirements
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Relevant business management qualifications are advantageous (e.g., MDP Programme)
  • Intermediate computer literacy (LIMS, Microsoft Office, SharePoint)
  • Must have at least 8 years of experience post HPCSA registration in an ISO 15189 accredited Clinical Pathology laboratory
  • Must ideally have a minimum of 5 years’ line management experience at laboratory manager level with direct reports (e.g. people, processes, financial systems and control)
  • Extensive experience in writing SOP’s
  • Experience in managing and delivering Quality Assurance processes
  • Experience in auditing technique
  • Experience as an external auditor will be advantageous
  • Experience in technical procedure implementation
  • Experience in staff training and development
  • An established record of successful change management and conflict resolution
  • Must have an acceptable performance record with regard to the technical and behavioural competencies including values-based leadership required to perform in this position
  • Must have a proven track record of building and maintaining positive relationships with internal/external stakeholders
  • Ability to optimise processes to achieve maximum efficiencies through innovative thinking and proactive problem-solving
  • Advanced interpersonal relations and conflict resolution skills
  • Effective verbal and electronic communication skills (including report writing)
  • Effective decision-making, planning and project management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the QA division in alignment with PathCare strategy and
  • Identify areas for improvement of systems, focused on lean concepts and reduction of waste.
  • Foster a quality culture in the PathCare
  • Ensure effective compliance to relevant legislation/ accreditation requirements Nationally and Internationally.
  • Manage accreditation status of all laboratories within the PathCare Group.
  • Develop and implement an effective internal audit programme according to relevant ISO standards.
  • Develop and implement effective SOP’s, QA Policies and related systems.
  • Manage the QA division and its staff.
  • Ability to travel. (Passport will be required for travel outside of South Africa)
  • Nominated representative for SANAS/SADCAS.
  • Plan and chair the annual national management review and follow up on action points.
