An opportunity exists for a Senior Professional Nurse/Senior Staff Nurse In-Charge to join the team at our Donald Gordon depot in Johannesburg. We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of displaying Phlebotomy competence and who has leadership ability with a high level of ethics and integrity while consistently aligning with the PathCare values.
Key Competency Requirements
- Nursing Diploma/Enrolled Nurse Certificate
- Current registration with the SANC
- Must have a valid unrestricted Code B driver’s license
- Relevant business/nursing management qualification is advantageous
- Intermediate computer literacy (LIMS, Microsoft Office)
- Must have at least 5 years of experience post SANC registration
- Must have 2-3 years’ phlebotomy experience which includes order of draw and running of Point of Care instruments i.e., running of arterial blood gas on the machine and be able to bleed neonates and babies.
- Management/supervisory experience in a pathology environment is advantageous
- Experience in maintaining QA systems
- Must have a proven track of displaying leadership abilities including delegating and team building
- Must have a proven track record of building and maintaining positive relationships with internal/external stakeholders
- Experience in training staff
- Client-focused with strong interpersonal relations (internal and external clients)
- Effective verbal and electronic communication skills
- Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of people
- Ability to optimise processes to achieve maximum efficiencies through innovative thinking and proactive problem-solving (including advanced trouble-shooting)
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to evidence emotional intelligence i.e., the ability to regulate and manage one’s emotions in a healthy and productive manner
- Ability to optimally plan and organise to manage and address work objectives within the prescribed timeframes/deadlines
- Ability to make decisions timeously and take accountability for these decisions
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and display resilience and tenacity in challenging situations
- Must have a proven track record of leadership ability i.e., have gained experience of managing or leading a group of individuals successfully
- Ability to proactively and positively influence and motivate staff
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and be responsible for pathology operations under their supervision within the depot/site, including HR, finance, quality matters and auditing of the systems
- Mentor, develop and train team members so to empower team members and encourage individual growth
- Actively work to harness the value of people while leading others so as to establish and maintain good working relationships that are mutually beneficial
- Collaborating with the Zone manager and the pathologists in their drive for growth and innovation
- Communicate, implement and manage organisational strategies, objectives and policies
- Manage, motivate and engage direct reports while maintaining day-to-day HR management administration
- Investigate, recommend and implement initiatives to improve operational efficiencies
- Perform advanced maintenance, housekeeping and troubleshooting of technical problems
- Identify and manage the needs of all stakeholders to priorities and optimise patient care, as well as strengthen relationships with supporters thereby contributing to the success of the business
- Handle complaints/queries timeously and effectively
- Model, align to and drive the PathCare values thereby contributing to a purpose-driven and CARE values-based depot
