This update is a report of the PathCare susceptibility data for key surveillance organisms isolated from blood culture samples, taken from patients in the Western Cape, over a four-year period, 1 January 2022 to 31 December 2025.

Bloodstream infections (BSI’s) are associated with substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide and may result in long-term complications, including an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and recurrent infection.(1) This update reports on key pathogens isolated from blood stream infections that are listed on the WHO bacterial priority pathogen list and have been identified as critical or high-priority pathogens which have demonstrated resistance to reserve antibiotics.
