PathCare antimicrobial susceptibility data for common community-acquired organisms isolated from patients in the Western Cape province during 2025 have been updated. In comparison with the previous surveillance period¹, current recommendations for empiric antimicrobial therapy for these infections remain unchanged. The ongoing rise in resistance among Gramnegative organisms underscores the critical need for diligent antimicrobial stewardship in both hospital and community acquired infections. This trend highlights the importance of identifying high-risk cases, with appropriate cultures recommended to guide and optimize therapy.
